I was born in Philadelphia, Mississippi on 2 September 1941, just 3 months and 5 days before the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Their actions impacted my life by restricting sugar which took away candy, cake, pies, soda pop, ice cream and other sweet delights. There would be no metal doll buggies, scooters, skates, tricycles and for that matter there would be no metal toys. My older sister, Nona did have such things, and I got to share hers when she was sweet. I attended kindergarten and then school in the Philadelphia school system. My grandmother. Mattie Myatt was still alive., but she would die in October 1941, but my great grandmother, Mammie Myatt was around until April 1944 to spoil me rotten.
