To the best of my recollection, around 1965, Bessie Gwillim Law told me that one of her great-aunts had married the British General Howe of the American Revolution. One of us must have misunderstood. Greenleaf Howe married her great-aunt, all right, but neither he nor his father nor his father's father was a British general. Moreover, Wikipedia says that William Howe died childless.
