13 bis rue Saint Pierre de Trévisy

From Family Wiki

Reed Gwillim Law spent his sabbatical year 1955-56 studying in Europe, mostly at the University of Montpellier. He and Reed Gwillim Law Jr. started out with two summer months in Spain, and went on to Montpellier to find lodgings for the family. We met up with Jean Inglis Law and Steven Inglis Law in Paris. The lodgings we had found, Pension Les Acacias, were not quite satisfactory, so we looked around some more, and wound up renting at 13 bis rue Saint Pierre de Trévisy.

The building was the garage of a residence within a fenced enclosure. We used the upper floor. You entered the gates to the driveway and climbed stairs to the upper level, whose entrance was just a platform the width of the building. The front door opened onto an ample T-shaped hallway that segmented the rooms. The kitchen was right front. Reed used the left front room as his study. Along the back end were three bedrooms, used by Reed and Jean, Steven, and Gwil from left to right. The left end of the T's crossbar had a stairwell that led down to the garage; at the right end was a bathroom. There was a vegetable garden behind the whole building.

We walked or bicycled down to the corner to buy a warm baguette or croissants au chocolat at the boulangerie, or the latest comics at a bureau du tabac. For the rest of our outings in Montpellier we generally went by car.
