[edit]Shirley did her undergraduate work at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. She earned a B.S. in Mathematics, a B.A. in Economics, and a minor in Statistics, graduating in 2007. She went on to study Mathematics at North Carolina State University, where she earned a Masters in 2009 and a Ph.D. in 2013.
